- British Douglas Fir has high natural oil levels as its own natural preservative, dry to the touch and leaves no marks
- British Larch relies upon its high resin content as its preservative which can leave marks on hot days
- Both species are almost equally durable and very similar in appearance and can easily substitute for one another
